On June 26, 1997 a generation of witches and wizards were born. Over a span of many years we learned spells and potions, made new friends, played quidditch for the first time, and fought dark lords.
It has been 18 years since we first started this journey of magic together. Since we first stepped foot on the Hogwarts Express and were carried off to the wonderful world that was created by J.K Rowling, and learned that real magic really does exist.
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
To say that she helped form a generation is no understatement.
So, here’s to the Gryffindors, brave and true.
Here’s to the Hufflepuffs, loyal and kind.
Here’s to the Ravenclaws, clever and quick.
And here’s to the Slytherins, driven and resourceful.
We all have our differences, but together we make up something truly great. We make up a generation of witches and wizards who understand what it means to accept someone even though they might be from a different house, a different nation, of mixed or pure blood. We’re a generation that knows that what’s right is rarely what’s easy, the most afraid can be the bravest, and that happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Have a safe trip to Hogwarts, all of our little first years. Get something off the trolley, make new friends, don’t worry about whether you’ll be in the same house tonight, and please say hello to a young man named James. His dad was the Chosen One, and we have a feeling that we’ll see great things from him as well.
