One of the greatest (okay maybe the only great) things about running is the opportunity to run with reason. Between apps like CharityRun and the insanely popular 5k, you have a limitless options for how to do good while being good to your body.
Some of us here at The Geekly Planet have decided to run with reason this season by participating in the Nerd Herd’s 4th annual virtual race series. As the title says, it’s a virtual run, meaning you can do this on your own time, anywhere in the world. You can walk or run, and you can do it all at once or split it up. While it may be the first time of some on our team, I participated in this race series last year, and by participated I mean that I paid my fees and failed to run any race past #1. The best part about that though, is that Stupid Cancer (http://stupidcancer.org/), the foundation benefited by Nerd Herd’s racing series, still got my money, me being a lazy ass or not. So what does this have to do with geekiness you may ask? The swag for this event is absolutely incredible. Not only are there 3 options for nerd themed races, complete with individual bibs, there are 3 adorable geeky medals for all participants! But wait, there’s more! If you sign up for all 3 races, you’ll get a BONUS medal. Come on guys, it’s like they know what motivates nerds or something.
This years theme is sidekicks, as you can see exemplified in the medals below. Nerd Herd highly encourages costumes and shenanganery while you run or walk, and remember the most important part, that this is for charity. Click the link below, or any of the pictures in this post for more information on how you can participate in the nerdiest virtual race series around.
The future is so cool you guys, you can actually participate in a race with people all over the world from the comfort of your own backyard! Will you join us in the effort to run with reason?
