Supergirl 2.20 ‘City of Lost Children’

Supergirl 2.20 ‘City of Lost Children’

This week’s installment shifted gears into a more James-centric episode, which felt good as his presence was missed over the past few weeks. While episode twenty focused on Mr. Olsen, it was limited in how much we saw his Guardian persona. It’s no secret for any who have followed my coverage of Supergirl that I am not the biggest fan of the Guardian subplot. This week’s episode utilized James’ alter ego in an effective and emotional way that I found completely enjoyable. All the while, we are making the march…

Supergirl 2.19 ‘Alex’

Supergirl 2.19 ‘Alex’

This week, the appropriately titled ‘Alex’, is all about team Supergirl attempting to rescue the Danvers sister from imminent death. The episode did something that I am not fond of, although I recognize the reason. Every so often, the writers pull back on the reins to Supergirl’s progress as a hero, at times seemingly to regression. Supergirl will make choices or say something that feels against her character, or at least stretching the limit. Ostensibly, this makes sense. Kara is still a young hero and is still learning. You can’t…

SUPERGIRL 2.14 “HOMECOMING” TOP 5

SUPERGIRL 2.14 “HOMECOMING” TOP 5

I truly love this show. It has been a symbol of hope, reverent to the core of the various characters and has been consistently on point with social issues. There is a ‘but’ on its way following those statements, which I imagine can be seen a mile away. And that was one of my main problems with last night’s episode. The ‘twist’ or the ‘big plot reveal’ was being played up as so obvious, it felt like there was no way that they were actually going to do it. Admittedly,…

SUPERGIRL 2.13 ‘MR. & MRS. MXYZPTLK’ TOP 5

SUPERGIRL 2.13 ‘MR. & MRS. MXYZPTLK’ TOP 5

Coming to us straight out of the 5th dimension, this was another episode I was excited about all week. I was quite curious as to how Mr. Mxyzptlk would be spun by the Supergirl writers, and I can say that I was not disappointed. Not only due to the fact that he interrupts a kiss happening between Kara and Mon-El, but there is no limit as to the mischief he can cause and I was pumped to see what he would do. But the episode wasn’t all fun and games,…

Supergirl 2.09 “Supergirl Lives” Top 5

Supergirl 2.09 “Supergirl Lives” Top 5

So long hiatus, and welcome back Supergirl! This week’s return sent our heroine into space, in an episode that I have heard referred to as having a ‘Doctor Who flair to it’. Being not the biggest Whovian, (I only have seen a handful of episodes, don’t hurt me!) I will let those better informed be the judge. Fans were looking forward to this one, not only due to the show’s return but being that it was directed by nerd guru, Kevin Smith. Mr. Smith has a storied history with Kryptonians,…

Supergirl 2.06 “Changing” Top 5

Supergirl 2.06 “Changing” Top 5

Tonight’s episode of Supergirl was filled with moments of exploration. Kara got drunk for the first time, Alex is trying to find a way to deal with her new found orientation and how to tell her family, J’onn and M’gann are still dancing around each other, Jimmy’s anxious to get to heroing, and Mon El’s trying to figure out just what that could mean to someone like him. There was a lot of confusion, and even more hurt feelings tonight. While I don’t care for an excess of drama, it…

Supergirl 1.16 “Falling” Top 5

Supergirl 1.16 “Falling” Top 5

We went on adventures with red kryptonite on tonight’s Supergirl, and had a chance to see all of Kara’s deepest, darkest thoughts.  We got a few laughs and some real feels, coupled with some great alien on alien fight scenes.  Here are my Top 5 moments of the episode, tell me yours @TheGeeklyPlanet! 5.) While I’m not a fan of The View, Cat’s interview was a top moment for sure.  From ‘powerful woman’ to ‘powerful person’ distinction, all the way to her comment on having her platform means nothing if…

Supergirl 1.15 “Solitude” Top 5

Supergirl 1.15 “Solitude” Top 5

Today’s Superman’s birthday, did you know?  Though it may have been unintentional, ‘Solitude’ was a solid nod to what he stands for.  There were quite a few delightful moments to choose from tonight!  So many, in fact, that I had to change up this Top 5 several times. Team Supergirl showed that they were better together, tonight.  Here are my favorite moments! 5.) Fortress of Solitude. Fortress of Solitude. Fortress. Of. Solitude. I mean, do I really have to explain here? THEY WERE IN THE FREAKING FORTRESS, OKAY?! 4.) The…

Supergirl 1.13 “The Girl That Was” Top 5

Supergirl 1.13 “The Girl That Was” Top 5

Supergirl has its issues, whether that be with the show itself, or the fact that it’s running in the same time slot as the X Files, but it makes up for that in spades with its truth to that S symbol.  The writers capture what it means to be a member of the House of El in such a pure way, and tonight was no exception.  Here are my Top 5 moments!  Let us know yours in the comments! 5.) Part of my love for Supergirl is that there are…

Supergirl 1.10 “Childish Things” Top 5

Supergirl 1.10 “Childish Things” Top 5

Supergirl returned from its week off with an episode filled with aliens, creepy dolls, and jerk FBI agents.  Here were my top 5 moments! 5- Though the shots he took at Lord’s character while impersonating him could have been detrimental to J’onn’s cover, it was completely hilarious, and led to a solid reason why he continues to hide his identity.   I didn’t care at all for how much Kara and Alex were pushing him through this episode, so hopefully that will ebb a bit now that he has more than…

Supergirl 1.03 “Fight or Flight” Review

Supergirl 1.03 “Fight or Flight” Review

“It’s about saving all of the people!” Is it weird to open up a Supergirl review with a line from Supernatural? Well, tough cookies, because here we are. ‘Fight or Flight’ brought viewers to the realization that it’s not just going to be aliens that Kara is facing. This is a world where all sorts of unfortunate circumstances can lead to all kinds of angry villains. We saw that this evening in Reactron. The world of a hero is so rarely black and white, and when it comes to jurisdiction,…

Supergirl 1.02 “Stronger Together” Review

Supergirl 1.02 “Stronger Together” Review

The second episode in the long awaited Supergirl series moved us into the growing pains stages of being a hero. Not only did Kara have to deal with the fact that she is going to make mistakes, but she also got the harsh lesson that no matter how much good you do, there will always be critics. It was nice to see the writers move in this direction quickly. While these won’t be the only struggles Kara faces as Supergirl, it’s good to move past the honeymoon stage quickly instead…
